It’s not a Joke, in fact, it’s Marvel-lous
The internet is going crazy in a Gaga kind of way.
In just a mere seventeen second clip, it’s officially been confirmed that Lady Gaga will be Joaquin Phoenix’s co-star in the upcoming Joker sequel Folie à Deux. Set to release in cinemas on October 4, 2024, the film’s release will debut exactly five years after the first Joker release.
Garnering over four million views in twelve hours, the House of Gucci actress validated the news by a simple Tweet, writing “Joker: Folie à Deux/ 10.04.24”

Despite confirmation of the leads, we are yet to know Gaga’s role in the dark psychological drama. However, Marvel fans, Joker fanatics and film-aficionados have collaboratively decided that she will star as Harley Quinn— though these remain surfaced rumours rather than official confirmation.
Translating to ‘madness for two,’ Folie à Deux director Todd Phillips first shared news of the sequel to his Instagram in June, posting an image of the script written alongside Scott Silver.
The teaser embodies all things Joker: an eerie sensation of dancing silhouettes and an almost criminalized screen-play of our favourite stars’ surnames amidst a rendition of the song ‘Cheek to Cheek‘ by Fred Astaire.
The music choice has sent shockwaves throughout the Marvel universe with fans quick to speculate whether the film would capture its same dystopia but in musical-form. As Joker-enthusiasts continue to investigate other possibilities, such as whether Folie à Deux will be set in Arkham Asylum or not, they’ve taken to social media to further explore.
Under a ONE Media YouTube clip, a fan wrote “I’m really into old timey music whenever it’s played in a movie, video game or whatnot,” while another added, “I do have faith in this project, the idea of a dark musical is not bad at all.”
However, what remains certain is that this news has clearly won over the DC-comics community following Warner Bros. cancellation of the Batgirl movie.
